Community Partners Global Volunteer Day
Since 2004, Community Partners has coordinated a Global Volunteer Day initiative; an annual event to promote volunteerism in the communities where MHP staff live and work. Held each May, Global Volunteer Day engages employees around the world in volunteer activities in their communities. Global Volunteer Day 2006 was a great success, welcoming the participation of more than 2,300 employees located in 40 cities and 14 countries, and supporting regional volunteer team leaders organize more than 100 volunteer team activities. Projects ranged from a village development project in India and a wetlands clean-up project in Australia, to introducing interview skills to women returning to the workforce in New York City and a community beautification project in Ohio. |

Community Partners Writers to the Rescue
Several years ago, seeing a way that employees from The McGraw-Hill Companies could share their writing and communication talents with nonprofit organizations on a volunteer basis, The McGraw-Hill Companies Writers to the Rescue program was formed.
The mission of Writers to the Rescue is to strengthen and support nonprofits by channeling the talents of our employees on behalf of organizations that improve our communities and the lives of others. The program leverages the writing and communication skills of employees of The McGraw-Hill Companies to help organizations create promotional materials, develop Web site content, or edit a grant application, to name a few ways that Writers to the Rescue has assisted.
In 2006, The McGraw-Hill Companies received a 2006 Pro-Bono Award from the TapRoot Foundation for the Writers to the Rescue and its ability to leverage employee competencies for the benefit of the community. TapRoot is a 40 year old charitable organization that connects business professionals with nonprofits who need capacity building. Writers to the Rescue was also recognized by the US Chamber of Commerce Business Civic Leadership Council.
