ANNUAL REPORT TO CUSTOMERS
THE McGRAW-HILL COMPANIES CUSTOMER PRIVACY POLICY
The McGraw-Hill Companies takes your privacy seriously. In 1997, we announced a comprehensive Customer Privacy Policy that provides protection for the Personally-Identifiable Information (PII) and Sensitive Data (SD) the Corporation collects in the course of serving your product and service needs. The Corporation regularly reviews and updates the Policy as necessary to reflect changes in the law and global regulatory framework, customer expectations, technology and business processes.
Privacy Steering Committee
A standing Privacy Steering Committee consisting of senior managers and executives across all of our business units and Corporate departments is charged with overseeing implementation of the Corporation's Customer Privacy Policy for all products, services and Web sites in their respective business units. Additionally, members of the Privacy Steering Committee must respond to issues regarding the Policy raised by business unit Privacy Officials or customers and identify new issues that emerge regarding technology and privacy practices in their businesses. Most important, the Privacy Steering Committee members must conduct educational and training programs for Privacy Officials and employees within his/her business segment and certify full compliance by the segment with the Corporation's Customer Privacy Policy.
Senior Level Privacy Officials
Each business unit has appointed one or more Privacy Officials charged with directing and overseeing unit wide compliance with the Corporation's Customer Privacy Policy, including assuring appropriate personnel are trained to monitor compliance. Privacy Officials are also responsible for handling customer inquiries and customer marketing preferences relating to the business unit's privacy practices.
Customer Complaint Resolution
In those limited instances when a customer issue is not resolved through the appropriate Privacy Official, the customer may contact the Privacy Steering Committee Co-Chairs and request assistance in resolving the dispute. The Co-Chairs, who are senior executives, will conduct a prompt review of the issue and work with the Privacy Officials to resolve the matter. A written response will be provided to the customer as soon as possible.
Internal Review Procedures
The Corporation conducts periodic compliance reviews to assess the degree of compliance with the Policy in each of our business units. The Customer Privacy Steering Committee contacts the appropriate Privacy Official if compliance problems are identified and works to bring the unit into full compliance.
2008 Experience
The Corporation updated the Customer Privacy Policy in June, 2007 to reflect changes in technology, law, business practices, and customer expectations. An annual Corporate-wide review of the Corporation's online and offline privacy practices was completed in the fourth quarter of 2008, the results of which were distributed to senior management in the first quarter of 2009.
The updated Customer Privacy Policy will be provided in English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Japanese, Chinese and Russian to reach more customers worldwide. The Policy can be found on the main Customer Privacy Policy page.
The McGraw-Hill Companies is proud of the strong relationship we have built with our customers which is founded on trust in our products and services and the manner in which The McGraw-Hill Companies deals with its customers and prospects.
The Corporation will continue to provide updates about its experiences with the Customer Privacy Policy and alert you to any changes that are made. We welcome your feedback, comments and suggestions. Please feel free to email us at privacy@mcgraw-hill.com.
