The McGraw-Hill Companies named one of the country's best adoption-friendly workplaces for second consecutive year
New York, May 5, 2008 The McGraw-Hill Companies today announced that for the second consecutive year it has been named one of the 100 Best Adoption-Friendly Workplaces in America by the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption (DTFA). Inclusion in the list is based on adoption benefits offered to employees, such as financial assistance and paid leave.
"We are honored to receive this recognition and proud to support adopting parents with a wide range of policies and benefits," said Harold McGraw III, chairman, president and CEO of The McGraw-Hill Companies. "Our adoption assistance program is an essential part of our portfolio of work/life benefits that are designed to help the talented men and women of The McGraw-Hill Companies perform to their greatest potential while maintaining a successful balance between work and family life."
The Corporation provides employees who adopt with a $10,000 reimbursement to cover adoption expenses and three weeks paid leave. In addition, the Corporation provides adopting parents with childcare resources and referrals, a 10 percent discount at national child care centers, backup dependent care, dependent care flexible-spending accounts, in which the company provides a dollar for dollar match up to $1,000 for employees with incomes up to $85,000 per year; and a unique handbook, The New Parents Guide for Adopting Parents.
The McGraw-Hill Companies ranked second in the entertainment, media and publishing industry category, 10th among large businesses with 1,000 or more employees, and 14th overall.
"More than 50 organizations nationwide established or enhanced their adoption benefits for 2008, and as a result, employers who made the list offered more robust adoption benefits packages this year to make it," said Rita Soronen, executive director of DTFA. "We found companies genuinely want to help families formed through adoption, but they also know it's important to maintain a competitive benefits package."
The Best Adoption-Friendly Workplaces in America list debuted in 2007 and is based on the amount of financial assistance and paid leave provided. The foundation compiled the results from survey data collected from 919 U.S. companies.
